KLHK : Management of Marine Sedimentation Products wont damage the Ecosystem
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) stated that managing sedimentation products such as sea sand would not damage coastal and marine ecosystems. What's the basis? "In Government Regulation number 26 of 2023 concerning the Management of Sedimentation Products, it states the management of sedimentation, not sea sand. So, indeed, the position is how do we improve the marine ecosystem by taking the sediment that has been disturbing the waters, not the sand," said Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry Alue Dohong, Friday (2/6).
As is known, the government has just passed a regulation on the management of sedimentation products in the sea. The regulation contains a series of activities for transportation, placement, use and sale, including the export of sedimentation products at sea in the form of sea sand.
This regulation has become a debate in the public sphere, because it automatically reactivates sea sand mining export activities which had been stopped 20 years ago. Alue emphasized that the PP explicitly regulated the management, monitoring and mapping of marine sedimentation results. So, the concern about damaging the coastal ecosystem will not occur.
"So in the PP there is an environmental saveguard for sediment management, both planning, utilization, management and utilization. And not all regions of Indonesia can, later there will be certain areas where the sea sediment has been quite severe," Alue concluded.
